M to N ch9 + new site!

Hello guys! JE is due for a new site, since I've finally gotten tired of Blogspot...we've renamed as well to JE Scanlations. Please visit us at our new home -- http://jelations.wordpress.com :)

MarioHolic Chapter 4 \o/

Today, I bring to you...a new chapter of a new manga? Why, you ask?
1. I still lack editors for GA. Result from previous recruiting drive: Marion to help translate M to N no Shouzou, Hazel to edit GA. Need more editors/translator people! No staff = no releases.
2. I'm tired of translating wine stuff. (read: Moyashimon)
3. I have someone who wanted to help me edit/help translate this one. (Thanks, dear. :))

It's called Maria+Holic, or Maria Holic, or Mariaholic. But I tend to typo it Marioholic for some reason. It's quirky, and quite funny, and reminds me slightly, just slightly of GA. (Is Kanako a bit like Mikan? XD) I think it was the 'dear mother in heaven' parts, and the being played tricks on. There were parts where Mikan wrote letters to her grandpa too. :)

MariaHolic is a funny romp around a girls' school, involving a trap, and a main character physically allergic to men. It comes out on anime next season (Winter; Jan 2009). Just...read it. Or look at the gallery if you want to give it a spin. The first three chapters are uncredited; I found it via a link on some forum I have forgotten. If you did these three chapters, please comment/email me with YOUR links and or site so I can credit you/modify this! I have since been told it was done via 4chan. -wry- I'm not sure if there's a specific person involved, so I'll just wait for more info. The mediafire link is included below, I mirrored it to df, and have also uploaded separate files for people who just wanna sample the first chapter/are missing a specific chapter.

Also...the individual files can be accessed online at the Moyashimon ch62 {JE} gallery. The interface is reasonably clean (box at left brings you to next or previous file), and it's pretty easy for me to upload there. If not enough people use it, I won't upload the next chapter there. XD

Recruiting editors/translators.

Alright, so I'm gonna be driving JE again after next week, but might as well give a week's advance notice...it's been a while since I've contacted the editors who helped in the past, but if any of you are still interested, please email me. (jennkei at gmail dot com) We're looking for..

2x editors, 1x translator (preferably Jap->Eng) for Gakuen Alice
1x editor for Moyashimon (JE is gonna do chapters 61-71, I believe.)
1x editor, 1x translator (preferably Jap->Eng) for M to N no Shouzou

Editors should be able to use Photoshop or whichever image editing program they like -- editing is NOT proofreading, it's cleaning the scans/putting the English text onto the scans. People with manga editing experience are more likely to be chosen, simply because it's easier for everyone involved. Please state which position you'd like to go for. I think at the moment we'll only accept one position per person, or I might get confused. XD

Re-release: Gakuen Alice Ch31~

Awright~~ Introducing one of our older releases, exactly...22 months ago. Wow. Has it been that long? XD Someone brought it to my attention that the raws we were working off of then were missing four pages, so I spot translated, and anonymous helped to edit. :) Please thank her!

UPDATED - Double release- ch60+61

Gwargh. First up, sorry to my editors - Mel (chapter 60 is her first release, and an awesome one it is too, all hail Mel!) and Cilee. They sent me these chapters ~/> a month ago, and I've only got around to checking them. -_- I suck. T_T Yeah, uni stuff, takes backseat to GA, unfortunately.

Also, someone helpful but wishing to remain anon has brought my attention to some missing pages in one of our old, old releases...I've translated them, and said person has helped edit them. Unfortunately...I'm not sure where the file for that is, so I'll have to hunt around my email/hard drive. But I've not forgotten! (And your other mail too -- I've just been too busy, sorry again. T_T)

Since uni stuff is still ongoing, no more releases until at least mid-end Nov. But hey, at least double release this time, yea?! XD I'm not sure if I'm continuing GA, even...there're so many other people scanlating it now, it's kinda confusing. Maybe I'll just do Moyashimon since it's easier. XD And look for an editor for M to N. So...what do you guys think? GA will be fine without JE? :) Do comment.

A...what? Moyashimon ch61?!

Haha. First up, apologies to everyone who thought I'd updated super-super fast with another GA release. Alas! It's a different manga -- Moyashimon. I reassure you guys, though, GA chapters 60 and 61 are already at the editors'. You'll be gettin' 'em soon. :) Thanks to Necroseer and higuys for helping me with some spot translations! Also, my French geography and wine knowledge are both lacking, so if you find any mistakes...it's cos I suck. XD Raws were posted up by NFKira here, I tried to register on the page but it never sent me an activation mail. :( (I checked spam) So if you scanned this in and would like to be acknowledged, please comment here/email! Three comments, please, before next Moyashimon release.

I wanted to take a break, and it was either this or M to N no Shouzou. Unfortunately, M to N is as hard to edit as GA (Higuchi-sensei, doushite??) -- and I had Moyashimon lying around, PLUS it's super-easy to edit. Even a dunce like me can do it. ^^ Hell, even a dunce like me drugged up with painkillers (I'm hoping my wisdom tooth extractions heal up fast!) could do it quick.

I direct you over to Mangaupdate's page for more info regarding Moyashimon, a delightful story about microbes. You don't see that much in this chapter, though, unfortunately. Enjoy!

P.S. The random phrases at the side, like 'Misaki's hair is loooonng' and 'Feel the wind', were in the actual manga.

Whew. Finally out. This took extra-long because for some reason I got half the files uncleaned. :/ And the font was a bit different so I had to make changes in the first half too...I don't know if Jacqueline sent me a batch of earlier work, but ah well. I changed 'em anyway. XD And we all know Jenn is slow at editing-type work, even if it's as simple (comparatively) as typesetting. XDThanks for waiting, guys. :) Just a warning - this 1.5 release will probably be last for a while until end of June, cos the dreaded E word is coming. :(

Heyla everyone. It is the 22nd, and it is an auspicious day. (My favourite number, after all.) That's why we're (finally..) releasing. And it's a double! You guys might have heard there's some rather interesting interaction going on in these 63 pages of goodness. :P

Thank you to Kineta/Allie for working on Chapter 50, you're a gem. Thank you also to all those who offered to help. Because of spam in mail and other..stuff, we might have missed some people. Sorry about that. :/ All in all I'd say about twenty people mailed, but only seven replied with completed trials. :P

Even though we tried to explain, it -is- easier for us to get someone who at least knows what he/she is doing. Just ask Enthyme. She's sent so many trials out, she couldn't really keep track of what'd gone where. Thank goodness for gmail search.

Hello there! :D Chapter 47 is up and running! Sorry it took so long. Kudos to all the patient people out there who are cheering us on! Makes me feel better whenever a less than patient tagger makes me a little blue -wry-

Jenn and I are also really amazed to see all the love for GA out there ^^ We have people asking us if we need editors and translators and raws and TLC (just gimme the TLC, if you ask me *inno*) and we definitely want the best we can get to get good translations to you guys. Wuv you all.

P.S. The comic strip and the profile this chapter are UNTRANSLATED. This is a regret on my part... but then the Chinese version does not have the comic strip and the profile was typed in such small characters I couldn't see them if I zoomed out and if I zoomed in it became disgustingly blurry. Just a head's up.

We work hard on these and hope to bring a smile to your face, but we hope no one smiles because they're just doing the equivalent of selling our baby on the black market. We do not sell babies on the black market and neither should anyone. If our permission is asked, we'll gladly share the GA love with whoever (we do put our stuff up for downloading...) So. It would be nice not to see our scans, somewhere we did not allow, minus our credits page. Yay to all the legitimate people who are reading this and have a desire to buy the real thing one day to support Higuchi-sensei!

Look, it's...chapter 44!

Makhan's first edit. :) He's gonna be kinda freelancing with us for a bit, and has done lots of fast speedy work, so thank him. :)

I'm kinda tired of people continually asking about 19-28...I thought it was clear enough from the first post that we weren't doing it. Recently got an email from Aerie saying they're all ready to rev up again, so all the more reason we're not covering that. In the same email, though, interestingly, we were probably referred to as the "enemy". I'm not really sure about the hostility -- from the start, we never wanted to "take (Aerie's) title" -- Gakuen Alice belongs solely to Higuchi-sensei, and all our labour is so we can spread the joy of this great manga. In fact, I'd rather see us as "collaborators" rather than "enemies". It is not a race. There are more than forty chapters we are behind on.

But we will NOT release 19-28. Ever. Don't mention it to us, I've repeated myself enough times. :P

That said, do enjoy 44. Like someone commented in the previous post, Narumi x Yuka! Yes!

UPDATE OF UPDATE. Naddie has told us she can't do 41, so we're getting Evenstar to help with it. :/ Sorry about the heavy workload so soon!! I just can't edit, exams are in two weeks, and Enthyme is too tired with work to edit. XD That brings me to the next point..I know people have raised their desire to help with editing. Because the last time I asked was a few months ago, I'd like to ask those who're (still?) interested to please email me at jennkei at gmail dot com. Preference for those who've edited manga before, simply because it'll be easier for them. However, if you feel like you can edit to the quality you see in JE's stuff you read, do feel free to email, too.

While we love comments, no one loves being asked to hurry up. (No one likes update posts either, but yeah...) Yes, we are working on it. Ch43 is done but we're trying to release chapters in order, (welcome Evenstar on board editing! :)) ch42 is 19/31 done, and ch41 will be worked on in reverse order. Relax, people. We're not gonna abandon this any time soon.

We're probably having a double release (41/42 or 42/43) some time soon, so look out for that.

First of all, my greatest and most sincere apologies T-T for being so unreasonably lazy/procastinating etc with this chapter! First I had projects, while alternating with bouts of flu and cough, then I had exams which just ended yesterday. I finished it today, forgot everything about how to upload and had to pester poor Jennkei to help because silly me forgot to zip the folder. Yes, I forgot I had to zip the folder :( :( :(

I wanted to finish it today because then everyone could have a nice Mayday reading the last chapter of vol6! Yay us, we finished a complete volume!

I went back and read every single comment. So touched that people think what we're doing is worth doing ^_^ -does the happy dance- Okay! By now it's quite routine, but yes, 5 comments, etc, etc, and thank you for all your continued support :)

Heyyy everyone! Bleargh, after a kind-of long delay, we have chapter 39. The only reason this didn't come in a week's time is because, due to Naddie's fantastic editing prowess (despite two assignments and midterms in a week! gasp), she finished editing in a week. I took long to translate. :(

The reason I said two-week releases was because I expected to have two chapters being worked on at any one time...but Enthyme has been really, really busy so she hasn't managed to have hers out. But yeah. Right. This one is out! Five comments, at least, before next release! Enjoy.

Woohoo! 38 is FINALLY out! I've been horribly busy with uni...so this is probably the last chapter until holidays that I'll edit, cos I'm just really slow at it. XD So I'll work together Naddie for future releases -- I'll translate, she'll edit. :) And Enthyme is still coming up with 32...she's also been sick, and bogged down by reports and icky stuff like that.

Released. Chapter 35!

Heyla everyone. I realise I seem to have spent ages on this (to myself, and possibly to you XD) -- there are a few reasons for this.
1. Translation of this was pretty horrendous. I worked with Japanese raws for this, so there was no more translating-while-I-edit. Because I had three versions of this chapter, and two I understood, I kept feeling like I had to cross reference. So my translation from the official Chinese tankouban was checked against the Japanese->Chinese scanlated version.
2. While I was doing this, Naddie very nicely offered to help us with editing. She's working on chapter 36 at the moment. For her to do so, I had to stop doing 35 to translate chapter 36 for her -- so I did half of it. XD And, again, more cross referencing.
3. You'd probably notice that this release is in single-page files, not double-page spreads. Well I thought this wouldn't make a difference, but truth is, saying, "I have twenty pages more to go." just REALLY makes you feel more lousy than "I have ten more to go." even if the amount is exactly the same. Plus I stamped so many watermarks, I might actually make it into a brush. XD Or I'll just continue dragging layers, I suppose..
4. Because it was a new volume, I had to do a few extra stuffses...summary page, credit page. I can't really figure out who the 15-year-old version of that chap (after Iinchou, right at the start) is. Is it Tsubasa? But isn't he already 15? O.o Please don't tell me it's Natsume...XD

P.S. Many, many thanks to Jo for the beautiful sketch she did of our chibi selves! And Enthyme for painstakingly photoshopping it so the lines were cleaner. I somehow managed to stuff it into the credit page, though it looks a tad awkward now...still, it's pretty. :) We're a bit too tired to colour it so...unless someone offers, it'll be in black and white. XD

But finally! Never mind it all. 35 is out! I'm off to translate the other half of 36. Five comments, please! Jenn, out.

Chapter 31!

Whee! Chapter 31! -smiles happily- I actually finished this afternoon but blogger was cranky and being fussy about gmail and stuff. And Jenn ran into a lil bit of a problem with her internet, so we just solved it ^_^ Thank you to everyone who comments, Jenn and I are happy that we're doing way better than the 5 comment thingy. =)

Once I finish chap 32 I'll be able to go read vol 7, I'm just dying to know what happens. I'm sure you are too! Okay I know you know I know you know this but 5 comments, etc, etc we wuv you too!

Wow! I am so zonked out from scrutinising the chapter for all the little things that slipped my eyes the first round (I edit mostly when the sky is dark and people are supposed to sleep :p)

Mmm yes chapter thirty is done. It's a sad chapter. It was a TOUGH chapter to translate because Jenn (THANK YOU JENN) had to help me with the names for the seiyuu and some other stuff. I hope it's correct.

Also included in this .zip is a replacement of one of the cover pages in Enthyme's chapter 29 -- I did it and forgot to send it to her so she could include it in her pack. XD So just extract it into the same folder as chapter 29. If you're saving all of volume six in one folder, all the better, just overwrite the other. :)

My messed up ISP actually downgraded my connection to 64k when I wanted to upgrade it-- chapter 34 is finished, but I can't upload it cos the upload site keeps timing out. :( Hopefully it'll be fixed within three days like they say it would. Sigh...

Edit: We currently have Naddie on board to help with editing..she's working with chapter 36. :) Because I've realised that I can't churn out that many translations myself, meh, I'm withdrawing the need for help at the moment. Thank you to the few who offered, it is really much appreciated. :)

If you know how to use Photoshop, have some time, and would like to help with our releases by editing, please email me at jennkei at gmail dot com. Of course, it's preferable if you've editing experience, but as long as you're willing to read up on tutorials (Storm in Heaven, Forever More, or just google manga scanlation editing tutorial and you'll find a lot. XD) like we did, we'd gladly like to have you, too.

Editing involves "erasing" the text in boxes, and putting the translation given into the boxes, instead. Erasing isn't as easy as it sounds, because the background can sometimes be a pattern, or part of something (person's hair, leg, vaulted ceiling..) -- much of the time, it includes judicious use of the marquee, polygonal lasso, or clone stamp tool, whichever you prefer, to make the "erasing" look as seamless as possible.

The reason we're asking is because we're aware that there'll be times in uni when we get seriously bogged down with work, exams, or both. Translating would be easier to do, then, than editing. We don't want to have zero releases for like two months while mugging, after all. XD

First of all - I'm so sorry! Due to unforeseen circumstances, I probably won't be able to release chapter 29 this week as earlier hoped. However, I'm now able to edit full-time (for a few days) and HOPEFULLY it'll be out next week. :|

Oh, and a note from Jenn: Sorry about this, but in the previous chapter I incorrectly noted 殿内明良to be Shingari. Because his full name wasn't shown, I got the wrong kanji reading. In subsequent chapters he'll be referred to as Tonouchi Akira. So Shingari-senpai=same person as Tono-senpai. Righto. Foxy should also be Kitsuneme. XD Thanks to ChocoVanilla's translations, which I just remembered to refer to. Heh.

I was worried I couldn't finish this in time. And...first chapter I've edited. Boy, I have newfound admiration for editors. Enthyme helped with a few pages (five and six, or something), and also contributed the credits page. Download links below. First Post, and Disclaimer.

Two lovers of Gakuen Alice have gotten together, realised
...the manga is very long (and very nice).
...Aerie (The group working on Gakuen Alice scanlations. Shoujomagic and Dragonvoice did some, too.) has a while to go to reach the current release status -- more than 70 chapters and counting.
... we could spread the Gakuen Alice wuv with small releases while practising Photoshop skills and having a shiny copy of edited manga to look at, before we get the actual manga when Viz deigns to release it.

So we're working on chapters, starting from Volume Six. Jennkei's (I'm) working on Chapter 33 up, Enthyme's working on chapter 29 up. Projected release is of 33 in three days, and 29 by next week. They'll, naturally, be posted here, so keep an eye on this blog.

After every release, we'll be looking for five comments before we release the next one. Why five? Because we're human and we like to be reassured. :) And because it's not meant for a mass release (Aerie expressed concerns about confusion, when we asked whether it was alright for us to do this.) -- we don't expect many people to read. So..five.

Do remember that the scanlations we do are not for sale, profit, or any commercial activity. We are doing this as a labour of love, and no money is being made off these scanlations. They are done by fans (us!) for fans (you!) and offer a mere preview of the great work Higuchi Tachibana has put into Gakuen Alice. So please, support her by buying the manga volumes when they come out in your area/language. They're really nice. :)

Lastly, please be gentle on us. It's our first time editing manga -- I do translation work for Obsession and Memory For You, but Enthyme's completely new to the scanlating scene. So we'd like to extend a warm yoroshiku onegaishimasu, and please enjoy our releases.

P.S. I didn't make a nice speshul Gakuen Alice blog template though I wanted to...because wouldn't you rather I were working on scanlations, instead? ;)

Edit: I suppose I didn't make this clear...the reason we're working on chapter 30+ rather than 18+ is, primarily, to give Aerie some air. We don't want to compete directly with them. They don't want us to, either. (In fact, they were pretty leery about us doing this...they couldn't see why we would want to. XD) As far as I know, no English scanlations of 18-28 exist yet. Wait for Aerie. :) Our aim is to catch up with the actual release (omg they're already on volume ten. -sighs-) so we're going forward instead of backward.

To find out what happens, I'd suggest you...
1. Watch the anime (some things overlap, not A LOT, but some. I think. I haven't really read 18-28 so I can't really say. XD)
2. Read Choco_Vanilla's chapter summaries.
3. Hunt around for other summaries.
4. Just heck and pretend we're starting a new story arc. XD
But really, that's all I can say. Okay? :)
